APTUF to hold Labour Day rally today


LAHORE: The All Pakistan Trade Union Federation (APTUF) will hold a rally from the Railway Headquarters to the Punjab Assembly Hall today (Thursday) to mark the International Labour Day. According to a statement issued by the APTUF, the day will be marked to pay tribute to the martyrs of Haymarket affair in Chicago, with a vow to institutionalise the socio-economic rights of workers. On the day, the traders’ body will hold rallies across the country against privatisation of national institutions, lawlessness, inflation, non-implementation of labour laws, discrimination against female workers, and exploitation of the worker, especially those associated with the agricultural and informal sectors. According to the statement, workers from all industrial areas of the city, along with leaders of progressive political parties and lawyers, will amass at the Lahore Railway Headquarters. From there, the participants will merge with the rally being organised by the Pakistan Workers Federation and march towards the Punjab Assembly Hall, where the central leadership of both the trade bodies will address the participants of the rally.
