'Imran's decision to march resulted in severe casualties'

Hashmi says no ethic allows storming of parliament, PM House

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) President Makhdoom Javed Hashmi on Sunday said that peaceful protest was the right of political parties but no ethic allowed the storming of parliament and the Prime Minister’s House.

Addressing a press conference at National Press Club (NPC) he said, "We had sent the draft of our demands to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who was to respond to them today." He said that Imran Khan announced to move forward, despite giving assurance to remain at the sit-in site. Hashmi said that everything was normal till last evening, but he was unaware who convinced the PTI chief to move towards the PM House.

He said that a commitment was given for not moving towards the PM House, but after receiving a message by Sheikh Rashid and Saif Ullah, Imran Khan decided to move ahead. The PTI president said that PTI Vice President Shah Mehmood Qureshi had told him that he was not in favour of the ‘Azadi March’ moving towards the PM House. "I asked Imran that why we have become followers of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT)," he said.

Javed Hashmi said that Dr Tahirul Qadri had linked his moving forward to the simultaneous movement of Imran Khan. He said that the PTI chief took the decision to move forward that led to the unfortunate incident of casualties. He said that if Imran Khan came back to the Constitution Avenue he would once again be standing with him.
