Bogus FIR registered against PM: minister

ISLAMABAD – Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid has said the government registered a bogus first information report (FIR) of the Model Town incident even against the prime minister for the cause of peace.

Talking to different TV channels, the minister said that the prime minister was abroad when the Model Town incident took place on June 17. He said that the government showed maximum flexibility and restraint to find an amicable solution to the current political stand-off. He said that there is no justification for the protest.

To a question, Pervaiz Rashid said that the government did not ask anyone to play the role of mediator and guarantor in the current situation. He said the army had been deployed under Article 245 of the constitution to protect important buildings and sensitive installations located in the federal capital.

He said that the army would play its constitutional role if anyone tried to deteriorate the situation. The minister said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan always said umpire was going to raise his finger. He said that Imran was repeating his rhetoric which had also disappointed his voters.

He said that PTI chief Imran Khan was engaged in media trial and leveling baseless allegations against the government.
