ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has taken notice of the murder of 25-year-old pregnant woman who was stoned to death near the Lahore High Court on Tuesday morning by members of her family, allegedly for marrying a man of her choice.
On Thursday, the prime minister directed Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to submit a report on the incident immediately. He said that incidents of ‘killing for honour’ in the presence of police were deplorable. Farzana Parveen – the victim – was attacked with bricks when the attackers intercepted on her way to the court.
Police booked her father Azeem, brothers Zahid and Ghulam Ali, cousins and some other relatives. The brutal act took place on Fane Road, one of the busiest roads in Lahore, when Farzana of Nankana Sahib, her husband Mohammad Iqbal and in-laws, left the office of her counsel for going to the court.
The victim’s father and brothers had got an abduction case registered against her husband and she had filed a petition in the LHC to get the case quashed. She was to appear before the court to record her statement in favour of her husband.
