ISLAMABAD – A few days before the government unveils the budget for fiscal year 2014-15, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rashid has said that the upcoming budget will be transparent.
“The money will be visible therefore we can be held accountable,” he said during a press conference here on Thursday. The minister also spoke about agreements signed in the 90s which provided power companies sovereign guarantees by the government of Pakistan.
“These agreements were not made by the Pakistan Muslim League-N government,” he said. “These agreements are causing conflicts because if the government does not pay these power companies, the power companies can take the government to court anywhere in the world based on these sovereign guarantees.”
He said that this would diminish Pakistan's status in the international community. The minister also spoke about developments that have taken place under Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's government, particularly in the telecommunication and banking sectors.
Earlier, addressing a seminar here, Pervaiz Rashid said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan will also face defeat in the 2019 elections. “Your actions will lead you to defeat in 2019,” he said. After facing defeat in 2019, Imran Khan will once again level allegations of rigging, he predicted.
The minister said he wanted to see the media in Pakistan being strengthened. If a TV channel makes a mistake shutting it down was not the solution, he said.
