Army, Rangers to secure major airports


ISLAMABAD: The security of the country’s major airports in Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad and Peshawar has been handed over to the army and the Rangers, who will assist the Airport Security Forces (ASF) in effectively securing the sensitive installations.“A joint security plan has been devised in consultation with the corps commanders under which security of the funnel area of major airports as well as installations has been handed over to the army,” special assistant to prime minister on aviation Shujaat Azeem told media at the Islamabad airport. He said the PIA aircraft attacked by gunmen at Peshawar airport has been repaired and is fit for operations. He said the airlines that have suspended their operations for Peshawar would resume daytime flights soon. He said that the military along with Rangers will be clearing and securing adjoining areas of major airports.
