ISLAMABAD – Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Friday said that the Pakistan Army was playing its constitutional role of facilitation under the Article 245 to defuse the prevailing situation.
Talking to a private TV channel, he said that there was nothing wrong in the facilitation role of a state institution. He said that the Article 245 was imposed in the federal capital in the wake of marches and sit-ins of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to maintain security and law and order.
He said that there was a possibility of bloodshed after provoking speeches of both leaders of the PAT and the PTI. So the army played its constitutional role, he said. “I think there is nothing wrong in it as it is within the constitution,” he said.
In the context of Article 245, there was a role of the Pakistan Army to safeguard Islamabad, maintain internal security and law and order, the minister said.
