PESHAWAR – Jamaat-e-Islami has announced to hold a grand tribal jirga for the success of current peace dialogue process between the government and Taliban.
Sahibzada Haroon Rasheed, who heads the party in FATA, announced party’s decision on Tuesday to hold the jirga at the Nishtar Hall in Peshawar. He said that the jirga would be held on May 1, 2014. The jirga will feature the government and the Taliban-nominated committee elders besides elders and religious scholars of the area.
The Jamaat leader said that he and other tribal elites were longing for peace in FATA for the last 10 years, saying that FATA was being neglected for years and the current operation has done an irreparable damage to the area. Rasheed lamented that operation has brought an end to educational, health and communication facilities.
