Minister asks paramilitary force to raise level, scope of targeted action

ISLAMABAD – Minister for Interior Affairs Chaudhry Nisar Ali has said that the operation in Karachi is heading in the right direction and it is the right time to raise its level and scope.

He expressed these views while talking to Rangers Director General Major General Rizwan Akhtar who called on the minister here on Wednesday. The meeting discussed overall security situation in Sindh province with particular reference to ongoing operation in Karachi.

The minister expressed his satisfaction on the commitment of civil armed forces in fighting terrorism and crime in Karachi. He said that momentum gained over last few months must not be allowed to wane or diminish. The targeted operation in Karachi has the support of all the peace-loving people of Karachi, he said.

“We must live up to their expectations,” the minister said, adding that improved coordination between rangers, police and the provincial government would go a long way in establishing durable peace in Karachi. He said the federal government was well-aware of the requirements of the civil armed forces especially the rangers and would provide all necessary resources to further enhance their capacity.

The Rangers director general briefed the minister about the ongoing operation in Karachi and the administrative and strategic challenges the force was facing in this regard.
