Government questions PPP’s power protests

ISLAMABAD: Reacting to Pakistan People’s Party’s protest in Karachi against power outages, Federal Minister for Information Pervaiz Rasheed Sunday asked as to what steps the PPP had taken during its government to resolve power crisis. In a statement issued here, Rasheed said PPP should remember its words of praise for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on the occasion of Thar Coal Project’s inauguration. “Asif Ali Zardari and Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah had expressed their gratitude for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the time of Thar Coal Project’s groundbreaking,” he recalled. He said no party including PPP should stage a protest on the issue of load shedding, as in just one year the Federal Government has initiated work on projects that would produce 21000 MW electricity. These include a coal-fired power project of 1300 MW at Port Qasim and another project with identical capacity in Jamshoro.
