LAHORE – Educational institutes including schools and universities were closed across Pakistan for inadequate security measures, a Private TV channel reported.
A new security plan has also been announced for the educational institutes. Three universities of Lahore including Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), University of Engineering and Technology (UET) and Bahauddin Zakria University (BZU) were closed up until 31st Jaunuary. The institutes had been advised to improve their security measures.
BZU’s Multan campus was also closed. Hostels were cleared and a search operation was also conducted. Army Public Schools (APSs) and schools working under Pakistan Navy in Karachi were closed Wednesday amid security concerns.
APS and schools working under Pakistan Navy will remain closed till February 2. After Bacha Khan University tragedy in Charsadda atack, directions have been given to tighten the countrywide security of educational institutions. There has been a three level security plan formed for the schools.
There will be high-level security given to schools under Forces, mid-level security in missionary schools and normal security in government and private schools. Meanwhile walk-through gates have been installed on all the entrance gates of Karachi University.
There will be eight feet high walls built around the university. There is no police personnel posted on 80% of Karachi’s schools. It has been directed to elevate the walls of schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and to put barbed wires on them.
In Lahore, according to the new security plan, 12 government schools, 131 boys’ colleges, 19 women colleges and 19 universities have been put under A+ security category. In Islamabad the administrations of educational institution have been directed to post security guards on roof tops.
