ISLAMABAD: The Senate of Pakistan will host the first Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) Troika-Plus meeting at a local hotel today (Tuesday).
Delegates from Jordan, Syria, Cambodia, Afghanistan, Bahrain and senior officials of the APA Secretariat in Tehran have arrived to participate in the meeting starting Tuesday morning.
The agenda of the Troika-Plus meeting is to consider the implementation of decisions made during the 6th Plenary Session with regard to adoption of a strategy to gradually transform the APA into the Asian Parliament, to form/finalise eminent persons’ group besides enhancing interaction of the APA with established Asian forums in parliamentary, executive and economic fields, to discuss recent developments in Asia and to identify ways and means to curb violence, promote dialogue and peace in the region.
Arrangements for the meeting have been finalised and the Senate secretariat is actively involved in making the event successful.
Senate Chairman Syed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari and heads of Syrian and Cambodian parliaments will address the inaugural session of the meeting while Senate Secretary Amjed Pervez Malik will deliver the address of welcome.
The APA Plenary is the highest body in the structure of the organisation that meets ones a year and is the sole decision-making body of the organisation. Chairman Bokhari is the current president of the APA.
