LAHORE: Massive financial irregularities have been found in the purchase of medicines in DCO offices of various districts of Punjab. Allegedly misusing authority the local government secretary has benefited his relatives who are involved in the distribution of the medicinces.
In applications given to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, DCO Faisalabad and Sheikhupura, a Toba Tek Singh resident has alleged that Local Government Secretary Rafique Malik has misused his authority to give medicine tenders for various district and tehsil headquarter hospitals to his close relative’s firm Hamza Distributors. He claims that this has led to the purchase of low-cost medicines from favoured distributors at higher rates, causing loss of millions to the national exchequer.
The affected distributors have sent applications to Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, health secretary and DG Health over the alleged abuse of authority by the LG secretary, asking them to take action against the official and cancel all the tenders. They have warned of protests if they do not get justice and if the favoured distributors keep getting the contracts.
