‘India adopting military approach on Kashmir’

Mirwaiz calls Kashmir a political issue

ISLAMABAD – Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, while maintaining that India is adopting military approach and pushing the entire South Asia towards war, has said that Jammu Kashmir is a political issue which can only be resolved by involving its main stakeholder – Kashmiris.

He was addressing a one-day delegate session of the Awami Action Committee in connection with its 50th foundation year at Town Hall in Islamabad. "Bharatiya Janata Party government, by calling off foreign secretary-level talks with Pakistan, is trying to give an impression about its tough stance,” he said.

But this hardline approach would lead India to nowhere as dialogue was the only way to resolve all outstanding issues, Mirwaiz said. “If India doesn't talk with Pakistan and adopts confrontationist politics, they are creating war-like situation and pushing entire South Asia towards tension,” he said. "Ultimately, they will be left with no option but to resume talks."

It is the people of Kashmir who have to decide the future of Jammu Kashmir and not Pakistan and India and the implementation of the historic United Nations resolutions or tripartite talks were the only viable solution to the Kashmir imbroglio, he said. Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Ghulam Nabi Zaki, and Pandit Bhushan Bazaz also spoke on the occasion.
