KHUZDAR: As many as eight officials of Balochistan Levies were killed and three others injured as unidentified armed assailants attacked their check-post along Quetta-Karachi Highway in Wadh tehsil of Khuzdar district on Sunday.
According to Wadh assistant commissioner, unidentified armed assailants attacked with heavy weapons the Jauhar post of Levies in the area, leaving eight officials killed and three injured. The assailants escaped after the attack.
“The check-post was ambushed by armed men who came on at least 11 vehicles. Eight personnel of Balochistan Levies embraced martyrdom fighting the heavily armed attackers,” Khuzdar Deputy Commissioner Waheed Shah told media. In exchange of fire, one of the assailants was killed and another injured, he added.
“Gunmen attacked the check-post early in the morning and shot dead eight Levies officials,” Balochistan Home Secretary Akbar Hussain Durrani told AFP. Durrani said one other officer was wounded in the attack but survived, adding police will question him over how the fighting occurred and who the gunmen were once his condition stabilises.
Quoting an injured Levies personnel, an official said that the armed men besieged the check-post and opened indiscriminate fire.
