236 foreign seminary students go ‘missing’

ISLAMABAD: As many as 236 foreign students studying at seminaries in southern Punjab region have mysteriously gone ‘missing,’ following the expiry of their visas that have not been renewed for the past one year, Daily Times has learnt. In this connection, the Interior Ministry has shown ‘displeasure’ over the Punjab government’s role for showing negligence in this episode, asking the provincial government to trace the missing students and produce them before the ministry for their deportation, a senior Interior Ministry official revealed to this scribe on Friday.According to the reports of intelligence agencies, no less than 236 students are still missing, as they are not attending their classes, sources said.“These students can potentially be used for terror motives. It is easy to brainwash young students. The Interior Ministry sent so many letters to the Punjab Home Department to take action against those religious seminaries that failed to deal with their students according to instructions by the ministry. The ministry has further asked the Punjab Home Department to search for the missing students,” said an official. Daily Times made multiple attempts to get hold of Punjab’s Law Minister Rana Sanaullah for his version on the issue, but he was not available.
