ISLAMABAD – Punjab Police informed the Supreme Court on Tuesday that the force had arrested 133 suspects in connection with 32 cases registered over two years under a campaign initiated to control sheesha smooking in public places. Assistant Additional Advocate Mudassir Khalid Abbasi submitted an temporary report in this regard on the government’s behalf. A three-judge bench of the apex court had asked the IGP on November 5 to control the dominance of sheesha smoking in public places. The report states that the home secretary had ordered DCOs to assist police with regard to booking sheesha smokers under Section 188 of the Pakistan It also reports that 49 suspects were arrested in connection with 19 cases in 2015 and 84 in connection with 13 in 2014. The report also states that the Punjab Prohibition of Sheesha Smoking Bill 2014 is lying pending in the Provincial Assembly.
