8 Taliban killed, two FC men martyred in Khyber clash

RAWALPINDI: At least eight militants, including a commander, were killed while two security personnel were martyred in a clash on Saturday. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the clash took place in Landikotal Tehsil of Khyber Agency after a security vehicle was ambushed by the militants. The Frontier Corps (FC) vehicle was targeted near the Hamza Baba Chowk by the militants. Two security personnel were killed and one injured in the attack. The security forces repulsed the attack, killing eight attackers, including a militant commander. A militant was arrested in a wounded condition. Four suspected terrorists were killed on Friday as the armed forces hit insurgent targets in the third day of action in a restive tribal area close to the Afghan border. Meanwhile, in clear indication that the peace talks with Taliban would not be pursued until they mend their fences by announcing an unconditional ceasefire and pledge to give up violent activities, the government has reiterated that the use of force against the militants would remain high on the agenda. Ahead of leaving for Moscow on Thursday, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that the targeted offensives, both aerial and ground, would be periodically continued in different parts of FATA, in response to the militant violence.
