ISLAMABAD: Members of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) have turned down the demand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan to resign from their posts after a decision of the election tribunal which invalidated the NA-122 election result and ordered re-polling in the constituency. In a joint statement issued on Monday, the ECP members welcomed Imran’s decision to approach Supreme Judicial Council. “We will defend the allegations by PTI chief before the Supreme Judicial Council,” the statement read. They rule out resigning from their posts. Meanwhile, the chief election commissioner (CEC) has not accepted the resignation of Riaz Kiyani, member of the commission from Punjab. Sources said Justice Kiyani presented his resignation on Monday when the consultative meeting started between CEC Sardar Raza Khan and other four members. He said he could not carry on with the job due to the criticism of the PTI chief. However, the CEC remarked that as the local government polls in the province are near, his resignation could not be accepted.
