ISLAMABAD: The apex court on Friday resumed the hearing of the petition filed by Geo Network and issued a notice to Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) Salman Butt directing him to submit the federal government’s reply, and adjourned the hearing till Monday.
A three-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and comprising Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Mushir Alam, heard the petition. The lawyer of Geo Network, Akram Sheikh stated before the court that cable operators association have no authority to take off air a channel, and quoted an SC judgement from 2010. Advocate Taufiq Asif pointed out to the apex court that various banners have been put up with derogatory and ridiculous words against the judiciary.
On this point, Justice Jawwad Khawaja remarked that these banners have no importance, and if anyone has reservations, he must use the proper forum to challenge these banners’ script.
He also remarked that the court was not under any kind of pressure nor will it accept any pressure in the case.
Justice Khawaja said the judiciary will stand with dignity, adding that truth always wins ultimately. He also said that no one should have any doubt about this. The court will resume hearing of the case on Monday.
