LONDON – Mutahida Qaumi Movement leader Altaf Hussain has strongly condemned the growing incidents of desecration of Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of Sikhism, and demanded emergency cabinet meeting to address complaints of Sikh community.
He said that people responsible for desecration of the holy book of Sikhs should be punished. He expressed these views while talking to the minority wing of MQM, which comprises people from Sikh, Christians, Hindu and other groups.
“I know that incidents of desecration have injured your feelings. I share your pain and distress. People who desecrate holy books, places of worships and holy personalities should be punished irrespective of faiths. They should be given same punishments which are prescribed for non-Muslims who commit sacrilegious attacks,” he said.
He said that the MQM considers members of religious minorities equal citizens of Pakistan and acknowledges their rights. “It is responsibility of the government to protect their life, property and worships places,” he said.
