KP police DSP survives attack

PESHAWAR: A senior police official became target of suspected Taliban militants when Peshawar Cantt Circle Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Abdul Rehman along with his driver were injured when unidentified gunmen atacked them in Badbher area close to the border of Khyber Agency. Rescue 1122 said DSP Abdul Rehman was on routine patrol when he was attacked near Sheen Daran area in the jurisdiction of Badbher Police Station. “His condition appears stable,” the rescue service said after retrieving the wounded. “The DSP received minor injuries,” it said. The attack on the DSP came hours after police official Aleem Khan was shot dead in Shah Qabool area of Peshawar while guarding Shah Qabool shrine against militant attacks. KP Police said that at least seven police personnel had lost their lives in target killing incidents in the past two weeks while 10 others were injured. Meanwhile, suspected militants attacked a NATO container in Jamrud Tehsil of Khyber Agency. The Kabul-bound container was attacked in Kata Kusta area where an attack on paramilitary soldiers left eight soldiers killed last week and authorities clamped curfew to search for the attackers arresting over 300 people on suspicion. Most arrested people, however, were freed later. “The unidentified gunmen opened fire on the container, damaging the vehicle but causing no loss of life,” tribal police told local media-persons.
