PTI not to become part of any deal on Musharraf: Qureshi

Ex-FM calls for action against ex-military ruler under law

LAHORE – Former Foreign Affairs minister and senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Wednesday wondered as to what guarantees former president and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari is seeking from the US.

He said this in reaction to a statement of PPP leader Shehla Raza in which she went on record to say that it had been agreed as part of the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) that no martial law would be imposed in Pakistan till three elections. She was also reported to say that Asif Zardari had gone to the US to seek guarantees in regard to what was agreed as part of NRO.

Qureshi said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf would not become part of any deal which has anything to do with Pervez Musharraf, and called for an action against the former president under the law. He said that the PPP should come up with an explanation of the statement of their party member.

On the issue of the internally displaced persons, Qureshi said that Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions Abdul Qadir Baloch has admitted government’s failure during his yesterday’s press conference in Islamabad. He denied any deadlock between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Awami Tehreek leader Dr Tahirul Qadri.
