12 militants killed in Turbat





QUETTA: Security forces on Friday killed as many as 12 Baloch militants in Dasht area of Turbat, Kech district in Balochistan. The incident took place when Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch was on a visit to Kech. According to FC spokesman Khan Wasey, a group of armed men besieged an area in Dasht, B-area of Kech district. “Frontier Corps (FC), on the information provided by intelligence agencies, launched a search operation during which exchange of fire took place. Resultantly, 12 militants were killed who had planned to civilian areas and hold populace hostage,” he said. He also said that no FC official was injured in the exchange of fire, which is still underway. “The area is being cleared by FC,” Wasey added. According to sources, the deadly clash occurred between Baloch militants and a religious outfit in Balnagar area of Dasht town, a remote and mountainous area in Kech district. “There has been intense firing since last night. It is a mountainous area. No mobile and landline services work in Balnagar that is why we are clueless about the deadly incident,” a senior official of the Kech administration said. The official said that they had information that the clash occurred between Baloch separatists and a sectarian group. “We do not have confirmed information,” he added. The FC spokesman said security forces rushed to the area where militants wanted to target locals. “The exchange of fire is still underway,” he added. The bodies are yet to be handed over to local administration. No militant group has issued a statement in this regard.
