ISLAMABAD – The National Assembly on Friday unanimously condemned attacks on journalists by the workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT).
The resolution was moved by State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmed. The resolution says that the freedom of expression is fundamental democratic right and all people including political workers should respect it.
The House called upon the government to take notice of violent acts against the journalists and take action against those responsible. “The House feels that freedom of expression is the basis of democracy and it is incumbent upon citizens and political workers to respect the same.”
The state minister called upon the PTI and the PAT to call off their sit-ins for the sake of Pakistan. MNA Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani said that the Pakistan People’s Party also condemns manhandling of the journalists. He also said that transmission of a private TV channel should be restored.
