ISLAMABAD – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced that by-election will be held within 60 days if any parliamentarian resigns from the National Assembly.
In a statement issued here, the ECP said that the by-election was a constitutional and lawful process and the institution has to follow it. The statement said that the ECP was responsible for conducting free and fair election. It said about 90 days were required for the election if assemblies were dissolved.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had announced that their parliamentarians will resign from their seats in the National Assembly along with other provincial assemblies except the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly to protest against the alleged rigging in the 2013 election.
