CHARSADDA – At least three people were killed and several others sustained injuries in a blast near a police vehicle in Farooq Azam chowk of Tehsil Bazaar in Charsadda on Tuesday.
District Police Officer Shafiullah Khan told journalists that the explosive material was planted in a motorcycle and the police mobile van was the target, adding that the dead also included a shopkeeper. He said that the bomb was detonated by remote control as the police van passed by the motorcycle on the main square.
Police personnel and rescue teams immediately reached the blast site and shifted the injured to the District Headquarters Hospital. The injured who were in critical condition were shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
According to the DHQ hospital, more than 30 injured people including policemen were brought in the hospital. The Charsadda police control room confirmed that the police vehicle was attacked in the Tehsil Bazaar situated on Nowshehra road.
