LAHORE – An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Saturday granted bail to 44 workers of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) held during deadly clashes with the police in Model Town on June 17.
At least 12 party workers were killed and 90 others wounded when police tried to remove barricades from the office of the Minhajul Quran Trust Secretariat. Lawyers representing the PAT argued that police failed to produce any evidence against their clients.
After hearing arguments of the two sides, Judge Khalid Mahmood accepted their bail plea and directed them to submit surety bonds of Rs100,000 each.
On Friday, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that he has asked for the resignation of Rana Sanaullah as the Law Affairs minister.
