Former Pakistani prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani was in Port Harcourt, Nigeria on a two-day trip, where he discussed at length the need for education in society. Gillani visited a peace centre on a special invitation by Father Emmanuel Edeh. Edeh is currently involved in negotiating for the release of 600 women kidnapped by extremist group Boko Haram and is working against terrorism, extremism and for conflict resolution. Both Gillani and Father Edeh discussed strategies regarding attracting youth towards education and providing jobs by setting industries and hospitals. Gilani also delivered a speech, where he gave slain former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto’s example of being a victim of terrorism. Not just her but his son Ali Haider Gillani and former Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer’s son Shahbaz Taseer as well, who were kidnapped in 2013 and 2011, respectively and have still not been recovered. He urged the audience to follow Malala Yousafzai’s example, for her resilience and her fight for the education for girls.
