Army wants early end to political gridlock

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif Wednesday stressed warring politicians to resolve the current political impasse as soon as possible. It was the second such statement from the Pakistan Army in less than 24 hours as the political deadlock in Islamabad persisted. Military sources said that Gen Sharif made these remarks during a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif Wednesday evening. They discussed the situation in the federal capital in wake of the protests being staged by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Awami Tehreek. The meeting specifically discussed the security challenges that had arisen after marchers besieged parliament premises.
