Several courts order cases against Geo

LAHORE/PESHAWAR/RAWALPINDI: Lawyers belonging to various bar associations on Monday boycotted the court proceedings besides holding protest demonstrations against the Geo TV for airing blasphemous content on its morning show, while courts in different cities ordered cases against the media group. Thousands of lawyers in different cities across the country took to streets with banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the media group. In Gujranwala, Additional Sessions Judge Mansoor Ahmed Khan issued verdict on five petitions, directing the authorities to file a case against Geo. The court has directed the SHO of Civil Lines police station to record statements of complainants’ and take action accordingly. Advocate Syed Kausar Iqbal Shah filed a petition in Okara District and Sessions Court. Judge Safdar Saleem Shahid has summoned SHO of a divisional police station in this regard. Judge Shahid had ordered registration of case against the TV channel two days ago. Rawalpindi Additional Sessions Judge Tahir Khan Niazi also ordered cases against the media group. In Nankana Saheb, a sessions judge ordered police to book ten accused. Petitions have also been filed in Peshawar and Battagram courts.
