Govt establishes contacts with PTI, PAT to defuse tension: minister

Rashid says protesting parties using women, children as human shield

ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rashid has said that contacts are being established with the leadership of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) for initiation of dialogue to defuse the political crisis.

In an interview with a private TV channel, he said that the government wants to resolve issue through talks. He appealed to the leadership of the PTI and PAT to confine themselves to protests only and avoid escalating tension.

Asked why the government was not taking any action in the face of provocations by the two parties, the minister said that women and children were being used as human shield. About reports of Pakistan Muslim League-N workers storming Multan residence of Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the minister said that it was not policy of PML-N.

He said those who did so violated party discipline and action would be taken against them.
