22 AIOU employees to perform Umrah

ISLAMABAD: Twenty-two employees of the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will perform Umrah this month under a special scheme, launched in collaboration with the Employees Welfare Association (EWA). Fifteen employees of the university, who were selected through a draw held last year, but could not perform Umrah due to an administrative decision of the previous management, will perform Umrah this year. Moreover, seven more employees out of 752 were selected through draw at a ceremony at main campus here on Friday, which was chaired by AIOU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ali Asghar Chishti. Chairman Higher Education Commission Prof Dr Mukhtar Ahmed was the chief guest. Retired employees were also included in the draw, said a university press release. Speaking on the occasion, the HEC Chairman HEC appreciated the university management and EWA for providing an opportunity to the employees to visit the holy places. He urged the selected employees to pray for solidarity and prosperity the country while performing Umrah. Dr Chishti said the AIOU management attached high priority to the welfare of its employees. EWA Chairman Malik Muhammad Saeed, President Mulazim Hussain Qureshi and Muhammad Amjad Hashmi also spoke on the occasion. It may be mentioned that the special Umrah scheme for employees was initiated in 2009.
