Imran asks govt to protect journalists

LAHORE – President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif through separate statements condemned the attack on senior journalist Hamid Mir and expressed sorrow at the incident.


Former president Asif Ali Zardari, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan, MQM leader Altaf Hussain and Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto also condemned the attack on Hamir Mir.


“Shocked and saddened by attack on Hamid Mir in Karachi,” Imran tweeted. “Strongly condemn growing threats/attacks on journalists. Govt must ensure their safety,” he said. “Hamid Mir never steps back from speaking out. May this brave heart recover fast from cowardly attack,” Bilawal tweeted.


Former Information and Broadcasting minister Sherry Rehman also condemned the attack and said that this was an attack on all who speak out. Condemnations against this dastardly attack on a senior journalist have started pouring in from all over Pakistan especially on the social media websites.
