LAHORE – Tahira Asif, a lawmaker, was rushed to the Shaikh Zayad Hospital in a critical condition after she was shot and injured in Lahore, private TV channels reported on Wednesday.
Tahira is the member of the National Assembly and she belongs to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement. The channel reported that the injured lawmaker would be shifted to the Jinnah Hospital from the Shaikh Zayed Hospital. The Iqbal Town police said that MNA Tahira had received two bullet wounds.
A channel reported that the lawmaker was injured while resisting a robbery attempt. The other channel reported that the unidentified gunmen opened fire on the lawmaker when she was on her way to Islamabad. MQM leader Rashid Godil said that MNA Tahira received three bullets and was shifted to the hospital.
In a statement, MQM leader Altaf Hussain condemned the attack on MNA Tahira Asif and prayed for her life and health.
