Rs 450bn loss to country due to protests: Dar

ISLAMABAD: Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Sunday said that the country’s economy suffered Rs 450 billion due to ongoing protests being staged by Imran Khan and Dr Tahirul Qadri. Addressing a press conference, Dar said an IMF delegation has called off its visit to Pakistan due to security reasons. “IMF officials are surprised whatever is happening in Pakistan,” he said. “Pakistan is progressing economically. What is the objective of this protest?” he asked. Commenting on Imran Khan’s addresses, he said that there was a terrible situation in the country. “Some things are very strange,” he commented. He said Nawaz Sharif might ask Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to step down. Separately, talking to a private TV channel, Dar said termed the civil disobedience movement of Imran Khan as unlawful and unconstitutional and urged the PTI chief to review his decision in the interest of the country.
