PPP ready to mediate between marchers and govt: Rabbani

*Shah says PPP believes in policy of reconciliation and democracy

KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Deputy General Secretary Raza Rabbani on Sunday said that the PPP and other political groups were ready to mediate between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and the government. Speaking at a seminar, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto (ZAB) and Islamic World, organised by Sindh People’s Youth (SPY) at Arts Council, the PPP senator said that dialogue is the beauty of democracy, so two sides should initiate dialogue with each other to end the political crisis. He said that PPP had covered a long distance and had given several sacrifices to bring democracy in the country. “We had sacrificed our leaders in this journey, therefore, we will not allow anyone to derail democracy in the country,” he said.Rabbani said the PPP would never support any unconstitutional bid to remove democracy. He said that Pakistan was acquired through many sacrifices and if democracy was derailed this time, then it would not be a danger to the constitution, instead it would endanger to the sovereignty of the country. Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah said that those who claimed to be representatives of youth in the country should first give sacrifice for democracy. PPP youth had given sacrifices for the country and would continue to do so in the future, he said. After Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is the only real representative of youth, he said. He said that Asif Zardari had proposed two plans for resolving the political crisis in the country and Opposition Leader in National Assembly Khursheed Shah would convey those plans to both sides. Shedding light on the life of ZAB, Shah said that ZAB united the Islamic world and proposed Arab world to use their oil as weapon. ZAB’s proposal not only gave strength to Muslims, but also forced the West to recognise Muslims as a force, he said. Opposition Leader in National Assembly Khursheed Shah said that PPP believed in the policy of reconciliation and democracy as the best revenge. “These two principles are taught by Benazir Bhutto and we are trying to convince political parties to adopt this principle for betterment of democracy in the country,” he said. He said that Pakistan is of great importance for Muslims and their eyes are on Pakistani leaders. He said the Muslim world was eyeing towards Pakistan for support in this difficult situation. Muslims are facing a crisis and it is the responsibility of Pakistani rulers to call for OIC meeting and unite Muslim world, he said. He said that Pakistan should play its role for oppressed Palestinians and should follow the footsteps of ZAB. He said that the current rulers should work for the unity and harmony of Muslims worldwide without taking sides of anyone. He said that political parties should also pursue the government to raise voice for Palestinians. Sindh PPP General Secretary Taj Haider said that Bhutto had opposed extremism and now both forces had targeted Muslim world to deprive them of their resources and their lands.
