Akram Sheikh to continue as prosecutor in Musharraf's treason case

ISLAMABAD: The Special Court – hearing treason case against former president Pervez Musharraf – on Friday declared the petition against the appointment of Akram Sheikh as prosecutor not maintainable, a private television channel reported.

Anwar Mansoor, counsel for Musharraf, had challenged the appointment of Akram Sheikh as prosecutor in the case. Now, Akram Sheikh will retain his position as the head prosecutor in this case against the former president. Registrar of Special Court Abdul Ghani Soomro announced the decision, reserved by the three-judge bench headed by Justice Faisal Arab on March 26, 2014.

The High Court has already given a verdict in this matter and since this court has no authority to hear it, according to the Special Court. Hearings of the treason trial will continue on April 24 and will be held on a daily basis from that day forward, another channel reported.
