SC rejects FIA report on Hajj corruption scam

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday rejected the report presented by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in the Hajj corruption scam and directed the agency to submit a detailed report regarding steps taken to ensure the arrest of accused Ahmed Faiz.A two-member bench of the top court headed by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and whose other member is Justice Mushir Alam resumed the hearing of the Hajj scam and expressed anger over the report submitted by FIA Director General Ghalib Bandesha in the apex court. Justice Khawaja remarked, “The FIA and Foreign Office are using delaying tactics in the arrest of accused Ahmed Faiz from Saudi Arabia.” During hearing of the case, the court was informed that the FIR against Ahmed Faiz was registered four years ago on the complaint of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Religious Affairs. FIA DG submitted in the court that out of the four accused, three – former minister Hamid Saeed Kazmi, former Hajj director Rao Shakil and Aftab-ul-Islam – were arrested, but the agency failed to arrest Ahmed Faiz.He informed the court that the agency contacted Saudi Arabian officials, but did not receive a satisfactory reply. The FIA prosecutor requested more time, but the court denied it, and remarked, “FIA has failed to arrest the accused despite three years”. Justice Khawaja observed that the FIA should submit a written reply in court if it could not arrest accused Ahmed Faiz. amir jalil bobra
