LAHORE – Punjab Minister for Law Rana Mashhood called the targeted armed action against militants in Raiwind area a reaction of the Zarb-e-Azb military operation in North Waziristan tribal agency.
An Elite Force personnel and a terrorist were killed while three cops and one terrorist injured during the armed action at Araiyan village on Raiwind Road. Earlier, the minister said that the forces would make their best efforts to catch the militants alive.
To a question, Mashhood said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif could have been a possible target of the militants as the Raiwind Palace was not far off from the scene of the clash. He said the prime minister and top leadership of the government were receiving threats due to the ongoing military operation in North Waziristan.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif paid tribute to the police personnel who had lost their lives and instructed for the provision of the best medical facilities to the policemen injured during the armed action, jointly conducted by the Punjab police, Elite Force and other law enforcement agencies.
The house owner, who was taken into custody by the police, said that he had given the house on Rs 5000 monthly rent to two persons.
