ISLAMABAD – Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs Senator Ishaq Dar left for Dubai on Sunday to give final shape to decisions about the release of International Monitory Fund’s (IMF) next tranche to Pakistan.
After talks with IMF regional chief Jaffrey Frank followed by a joint press conference, the finance minister will return on Monday night. Finance Ministry sources have described as baseless a private TV channel report that the minister has gone to Dubai in view of the political situation.
The sources said that a team of Finance Ministry led by Finance Secretary Dr Waqar Masood is already in Dubai and holding talks with the IMF. According to a previous schedule, the IMF regional chief was to come to Islamabad for a joint news conference with Ishaq Dar but in view of the two sit ins, he has cancelled his visit to Pakistan and the finance minister has gone to Dubai for signing of documents and press conference.
