ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif spoke to Narendra Modi on Friday afternoon and offered his congratulations and good wishes on the Bhartaya Janata Party’s impressive victory in the just concluded general elections in India.
Talking to Modi via telephone, the prime minister invited him to Pakistan and said that Pakistan always intended to foster amicable relations with its neighbour. Modi has never been in government at national level after spending the last 13 years as chief minister of Gujarat state.
The BJP becomes major political force in the Indian general election. Modi is the BJP candidate for the top post of the prime minister. This was the first-ever contact between Prime Minister Nawaz and Narendra Modi. “Prime Minister also wished that BJP's victory would promote peace and stability to the region,” said Sartaj Aziz, the adviser on Foreign Affairs.
