LAHORE/ISLAMABAD – A session court of Lahore on Saturday ordered police to lodge a murder case against 21 persons including prime minister, chief minister of Punjab and former provincial law minister over Model Town tragedy.
However, Federal Minister for Information Senator Pervaiz Rashid rejected the reports, saying the court ordered police to act as per law. The court issued its order to register the case under Clause 156 of the criminal proceedings.
The court ordered the Faisal Town police to act as per law for the registration of the case. At least 14 people were killed and over 90 injured when Pakistan Awami Tehreek workers and police clashed outside the Minhaj-ul-Quran Secretariat in Model Town on June 17.
The federal information minister said that the session court hasn’t issued any order to the police to register FIR against the prime minister and the chief minister in the Model Town tragedy case. In a statement, the minister clarified that the court while disposing of the Minhajul Quran application asked the police to deal with the matter as per law.
This decision of the court doesn’t mean that it has order to register case anyone, he interpreted.
