Shah urges SC to help defuse political deadlock

ISLAMABAD: Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah on Thursday said the Supreme Court (SC) could come up with a solution to defuse current political deadlock within the parameters of the constitution. Speaking to reporters, Shah praised Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for showing political maturity by agreeing to form a commission comprising three Supreme Court judges regarding alleged rigging in 3013 elections. He said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s demand to form a technocrat’s government was unconstitutional, adding that there was no room for such demands in the constitution. About the Azadi March of the PTI, Shah said that though the LHC had restrained Imran Khan from the protest march but the government should not create hurdles in their way. The opposition leader said protest was a democratic right of political parties. He said that the PTI chairman should not be stopped from leading the Azadi March and the containers blocking the routes should be removed. About containers placed in the federal capital, Shah said he had not spotted any containers in the federal capital, barring the Red Zone. The opposition leader said the demands put forth by Imran Khan and Dr Tahirul Qadri were similar in nature.
