Army following non-intervention policy in politics: defence minister

ISLAMABAD – Defence Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif has said that people hoping for unconstitutional steps would be disappointed.

Talking to journalists inside the Parliament House, the minister said that order of the Supreme Court restraining any unconstitutional step by any institution of the state was good omen. He said that the army was following the tradition of non-intervention in politics.

He said that he was confident that all institutions including the parliament, judiciary and army would continue to play their role as provided in the constitution. He said that long marches and rallies were purely political matters and by giving its order, the apex court has again emphasized that the constitution was supreme.

The minister said that the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was functioning as per its mandate. “Everything is normal,” he said.
