SHC hears Musharraf’s plea today

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday accepted the petition of former military ruler Pervez Musharraf regarding the removal of his name from the Exit Control List (ECL) for immediate hearing. The case will be heard today (Saturday) by a two-member bench comprising justices Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Shah Nawaz. Musharraf has in his petition pleaded the court to review its decision of 15 days’ time to the government to appeal against the decision of removal of his name from the ECL. The petition states that Musharraf wants to visit his ailing mother in Dubai. The high court had in a recent decision ordered the removal of the former dictator’s name from the ECL, but suspended its implementation for 15 days, giving time to the government to appeal against the decision.  Musharraf’s counsel, Barrister Farogh Naseem appealed the court on Friday to allow his client to leave the country at the earliest to visit his ailing mother. Naseem said that he hoped the court will decide the matter by tomorrow (Saturday) “in view of the deteriorating health of his mother”.
