QUETTA/KARACHI – Balochistan Assembly member Hendry Masih died in a gun attack in Quetta, government's spokesman Jan Mohammad Buledi said on Saturday.
Hendry Masih was a member of the National Party (NP) and was attacked in front of his residence in the provincial capital. Buledi said that Masih was taken to a hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries.
Balochistan Health Minister Rehmat Baloch said that Masih was shot by his security guard who had been employed by the slain lawmaker for nearly 15 years. Masih was elected as the provincial lawmaker on the reserved seat for minorities.
His nephew has also been injured in the attack. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the attack and offered his condolences to the family of the late lawmaker. In the National Assembly, a two-minute silence was observed for the late lawmaker.
Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto condemned the killing of Hendry Masih and expressed sympathy with the bereaved family. He urged the provincial government to thoroughly investigate the case to unearth motive behind the ugly killing and punish the culprits involved, directly and indirectly.
