LAHORE – Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar has thanked all mainstream political parties for their efforts to persuade the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leaders for keeping ‘Azadi March’ and ‘Inqlab March’ peaceful.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, the governor said that Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain, Sindh Governor Ishrat-ul-Ebad, Jamaat-e-Islami leader Sirajul Haq, Pakistan People’s Party leader Khursheed Shah and other leaders played a vital role in defusing tension between the government and the leaders of PAT and PTI.
After assurance of peace, both parties had been given free-hand to launch marches, he said, adding that Pakistan was heading towards the road of prosperity and success and protests always make this journey slow. The Punjab government would not resist long marches as both parties would proceed their march peacefully, he said.
The governor said that it was committed by the both parties that they would march peacefully till Islamabad and then they would disperse after normal speeches and nobody would violate the constitution.
