Minister says 15,000 people in Islamabad, 550 in Lahore attended rallies

Rashid says Imran Khan failed to gather a large crowd

ISLAMABAD – Information and Broadcasting Minister Pervaiz Rashid on Monday called the public gathering of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on Sunday as a failure and said not more than 15000  people showed up to support Imran Khan, who heads the opposition party.

Talking to journalists here, he said that participants of the public meeting were not more than 15,000. Only 550 people attended the rally in Lahore, he also said. He said that PTI failed in arranging a mammoth gathering and situation was such that not even 10 per cent of his voters showed up.

The minister said that nothing new was announced by Imran Khan at the public meeting. The rally was an attempt by Imran Khan to divert attention from the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the cracks within the party, he said.

He said that the public has rejected allegations of rigging in four constituencies as alleged by Imran Khan. The minister also said that the electricity load shedding issue would take time to settle.
