Army spokesman says terrorists fire rockets on a check post in Mirali

ISLAMABAD – At least 13 militants have been killed early on Saturday as military fighter jets attacked and destroyed seven hideouts of the militants in North Waziristan during a major offensive in the tribal region, the military said.


The army spokesman said that terrorists fired rockets on a security forces check post in Mirali, a major town in North Waziristan. “Air strikes were launched early morning today, killing 13 x terrorists and destroying seven hideouts,” according to a statement, issued here.


A huge cache of arms and ammunition was also destroyed and most of the terrorists killed in strikes are foreigners. The security forces have continued clearance in Miranshah, the headquarters of North Waziristan, and Dattakhel, an adjoining area near Miranshah.


The forces also recovered six prepared motorcycle borne IEDs, and two vehicle borne IEDs, 11 suicide jackets and huge cache of ammunition during the last 24 hours. The spokesman said that three terrorists including one Uzbek have been apprehended from Boya area, which is considered a stronghold of the militants.


Two suicide bombers were identified and chased who exploded themselves when encircled close to Boya, the spokesman said. Two explosive laden vehicles were destroyed through aviation strike at Degan area, he said. On the other hand, relief operation for displaced families at Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank and Peshawar continues at full pace.
